AllieKat’s Motion Notion 2013 Picks
Posted by: AllieKat on July 25, 2013A few of us here at All You Need is Bass are getting hyped up for Motion Notion 2013 festival out in the beautiful Golden, BC next weekend. Here’s a little preview of what I’m most excited for.

Mat The Alien
On Thursday night the party’s getting warmed up at the Temple. Looking forward to the always enigmatic extraterrestrial Mat the Alien firing up the turntables at 1:30 AM. I haven’t had the chance to see him throw down since last festival season so I’m looking forward to warming up the party legs which are apparently also known as gyrostallions, a new favourite term I picked up from a fellow dance floor superstar at Astral Harvest Festival.

Mr. Bill
Friday:
On Friday night you will have a difficult time peeling my ears away from the Space Invaderz built Cabana Stage from 7:30PM onwards. Pulling us in to the party in a real hurry at 7:30PM will be Calgary’s Defunk accompanied by live vocalist Vindaloo. Expect sweet soul, high energy and some of that funky goodness. Next up at 9:00PM is BC boy Stickybuds who will be no doubt bringing that Ghetto Funk infused multi-tempo vibe he brings with him to the stage every time he steps up. At 10:30PM is Mr. Bill hailing from the far off land of Sydney, Australia. I’ve been waiting a long time to see this guy up here in the north. Expect off the charts glitch hop, glitchy breaks and many bassy surprises from outer space in between.
I will undoubtedly also have to also duck over to the Metasphere for Calgary’s up and coming producer Kousk at 9PM to catch some of one of her beautifully woven sets of tribal, gypsy and world fusion sounds and then over to the Temple at 11PM to see JPOD cook up some of his bouncing, funky beats.

Knight Riderz
Saturday:
The wee hours of Saturday morning hold much promise as well with Knight Riderz holding down the 1:30AM spot at the Cabana with one of his signature 100% original razor-sharp, booty shaking sets. At 2:15AM check out everyone’s favorites the Funk Hunters at the Temple followed by one of the most exciting live acts I’ve ever experienced the man known as Longwalkshortdock. Early Saturday morning at the Metasphere is going to be vibin’ with Calgary’s Sergio Levels getting going at 12AM followed by Vancouver’s Max Ulis. They’ll no doubt be bringing that tasty future bass.

The Human Experience
Saturday evening brings Vancouver’s Shamik to the Temple stage at 5PM. Expect live vocals, beatboxing, the deepest of deep and floating melodies. A highly recommended way to kick off the evening. At 9PM is Canadian glitch hop superstar Ill-Esha at the Cabana. Overlapping with her is one of my top picks for the entire festival, The Human Experience at the Metasphere. After falling in love with his sounds on the Bloom Documentary Fundamental Frequencies soundtrack and listening to his recent full length album with the New Orleans sisters Rising Appalachia, I can’t wait to see what kind of beautifully crafted set he has in store for us.
Sunday:

Daega Sound
The Metasphere is going to be where you can find me from 12:00AM to 4:30AM on Sunday with such talents as Calgary’s Jay Michael followed by Vancouver’s Michael Red and Daega sound. They will be bringing all things deep, melodic and beautiful. On Sunday morning be sure to catch Phutureprimitive at the Temple at 4:45AM stick around for Max Ulis’s 6AM sunrise set to wind down your festival.
It’s going to be a busy one. Way too much goodness to see. Watch for me, I’ll be the one trying to be in three places at once. See you there!
