Slow Jam Sundays: Afro Monk’s Alien Sessions
Posted by: Dee on September 16, 2012This weeks slow jam comes from a beat producer, DJ, music journalist and events promoter out of Miami that is trying to bring the romance back to the dance floor with downtempo sounds and chilled out future beats. Afro Monk runs a blog to help support and promote new artists and the electronic music community by sharing new sounds and anything else he finds interesting on it. He also started up a website dedicated to chill music named LoungeTemple.com. A self confessed pirate, he has been collecting music since the 6th grade. It wasn’t until he found his own personal sound that he actually started to pay for it.
Recently, Afro Monk released his Alien Sessions which consists of 3 sets of perfectly chilled beats for any Sunday relaxing. As he claims on his blog “The internet is filled with so much dance music and club bangers. I’m tired of it and to be honest I know that there’s so much good music that is overlooked at times because they aren’t meant for the dance floor. I’ve looked back at all the mixes I’ve done and wasn’t content with it and felt like I needed to do this. I want to be remembered for creating something that is for the chill music lovers.”
These are words that truly resonate with us here at AYNIB and is really the main reason we feature our Slow Jam Sundays. We absolutely love rocking out on the dance floor to big bass shakers, but there is also this whole beautiful amazing realm of our music that we feel doesn’t get showcased enough. Luckily at music festivals you can usually find a chill space dedicated to playing music to help wind you down; that gives artists who create this kind of sound a chance to shine too.
From “Get Weird” to “Detox” to “Tell Me You Want Me Here” in Afro Monk’s Alien Sessions you can expect to hear some deep bassy rhythms, tantalizing glitch, and seductive vibes.
Here is the “Detox” session on soundcloud. To hear the other two sessions you can check out his soundcloud or directly download all 3 sessions by right clicking here.
