HYHT: NOG – Just an Illusion EP
Posted by: AllieKat on July 21, 2014
Western Canada’s producer scene has been flourishing over the last few years, and continues to gain momentum. Vancouver’s NOG fits firmly in to the category of talented and unique up and comers. In both his solo project and collaborative project with Mr. Mercy called Moontricks, NOG is making waves. With a release as Moontricks on Adapted Records in collaboration with the Funk Hunters as well as solo releases on Mat The Alien’s Really Good Recordings, NOG is making his way to a sound system near you.
Strongly influenced by hip-hop, grime, westcoast midtempo, blues, jazz and never losing sight of melody, NOG’s new two track EP Just An Illusion out on Vancouver’s non-profit label Smokey Crow Records creates the kind of atmosphere that will make you stare up at the stars and lose yourself in sound this festival season. Of the two tracks, Dusty Trails and Happiness, I’m particularly drawn to the sweet and soulful jazz piano, warm old-school vocals and dubbed out sound of Happiness. Warning: both tracks may induce melting.
Available by donation now on Smokey Crow Records’ Bandcamp.
Be sure to catch NOG as one half of Moontricks at the Grove Stage at 8:30PM Sunday night at Shambhala this year. Their live set is not to be missed!
