HYHT: The Dirty Sample – Raw Produce
Posted by: K. Lea on February 3, 2015In the depths of a Calgary studio-lair dwells a man with the face of an ape. In this lab, he cuts some of the most raw and rugged beats in contemporary Canadian hip-hop. He has multiple identities, and one incredible talent. This guy can make beats. Meet ApeFace, aka The Dirty Sample. Over the past decade, he’s been crushing out hip-hop at a steady pace, with quality. His art is his life, and it shows.
Recently, he released Raw Produce, a full-length hip-hop gem on Phonographique Records, a Canadian imprint dedicated to pushing the best in Canadian hip-hop. On Raw Produce, you can hear Golden Era influences as well as hints of the new wave of beatmakers and MCs, in a sound that belongs solely to The Dirty Sample. This hip-hop is new, but it’s definitely not corny. No weak ass kids that know nothing of hip-hop history here . With healthy doses of scratching and straight up sick beats, The Dirty Sample sets the stage perfectly to showcase what these various MCs have to offer up, and the results are dope.
The album is available now, and you should pick one up. Support our sick Canadian talent!
